Aviation Updates Philippines – Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air took delivery of its 10th Airbus A320-271N aircraft, with registration RP-C4136, on April 16, 2023.

The aircraft, which was powered by sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on its delivery flight, arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila from the Airbus Delivery Center in Toulouse, France.

The delivery of the 10th A320neo aircraft is part of Cebu Pacific’s goal to transition to a more fuel-efficient all-NEO fleet by 2028. The airline currently has 30 A320s, 17 A321s, 5 A330s and 16 ATRs in its fleet.

“The delivery of our 10th A320neo aircraft, powered by sustainable aviation fuel, highlights Cebu Pacific’s commitment to become one of the greenest airlines in Asia,” said Alex Reyes, Cebu Pacific Chief Strategy Officer. “We continue to invest on these fuel-efficient NEO aircraft and incorporate SAF in our operations.”

SAF is a drop-in fuel that can be used in existing aircraft without any modifications. It is made from renewable sources, such as waste oils and agricultural residues, and has a significantly lower carbon footprint than conventional jet fuel.

The use of SAF in Cebu Pacific’s operations is part of the airline’s sustainability goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. The airline has also made other investments in sustainability, such as investing in fuel-efficient aircraft and implementing fuel-saving initiatives across its operations.

“We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and becoming a more sustainable airline,” said Reyes. “We believe that investing in sustainable aviation is the right thing to do for the environment and for our business.”

Cebu Pacific is the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to incorporate SAF into its operations when it used the biofuel for the Airbus A330neo delivery flight in May 2022.
