Domestic flights to, from Manila suspended anew
Aviation Updates Philippines – The
Philippine Government, under the advisement of the health authorities, has
re-implemented the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) over Metro
Manila for 15 days beginning August 4, canceling all domestic flights until
August 18.
For August 3, the Philippines' major airlines, which have just recently
increased flights after a shaky restart, have announced it will continue to
operate the remaining flights on Monday. The reintroduction of the MECQ has
only been announced overnight.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said restrictions on land, sea, and air
transportation are set to be implemented at midnight today. For places under
the MECQ, no commercial, domestic flights will be allowed, although
international and other government-approved flights remain operational.
Philippine Airlines said in a statement: "We are presently coordinating with
the government authorities on the guidelines for air travel to and from Manila
during the modified quarantine period, and we will make the necessary
adjustments to our planned flights in compliance with the final guidelines."
"Rest assured we will update you on any changes. Please continue to check our
travel advisories for developments. Thank you for your understanding," the
flag carrier added.
On their part, AirAsia said: "We are currently coordinating with aviation
authorities on how flights will be affected by the government's latest
decision to revert some areas, including NCR, to MECQ until August 18."
Meanwhile, Cebu Pacific has confirmed the cancellation of flights to and from
Metro Manila between August 4 to August 18. The low-cost airline intends to
continue operating only its Cebu-Davao-Cebu and Clark-Cebu-Clark routes for the 15-day period.
Cebu Pacific's international routes: Manila-Dubai-Manila, Manila-Incheon,
Tokyo (Narita)-Manila, Osaka-Manila, and Manila-Singapore-Manila, will remain
operational. The airline also said it will cancel flights to Taipei, among other
unmentioned international destinations.
"CEB will also continue to mount all-cargo flights to ensure transport of
essential goods across the country. We will also work with government at the
national and local levels to assist stranded passengers," Cebu Pacific said in
an advisory.
