PAL Express accepts delivery of newest Q400 NextGen
Aviation Updates Philippines – PAL Express received its eleventh De Havilland DHC-8-402 Dash 8, tagged the Next Generation version, on Thursday fresh from the manufacturer's Canadian facility. The aircraft is registered as RP-C5915 with serial number 4510.
The delivery flight of PAL Express' eleventh De Havilland DHC-8-402 Dash 8, as usual to all Dash 8's delivered to PAL, made stops to at least nine airports in nine countries — an exhausting five-day journey to delivery the flag carrier's state-of-the-art aircraft.
The ferry team was composed of PAL Express Turboprop Chief Pilot Capt. Anthony Larena, Capt. Dodgiel Monteza, and First Officer Pepito Franco Jesus.
The point of origin was Bombardier's Downsville Airport facility in Canada. The rest of the stops were in Gander, Canada; Reykjavik, Iceland; Paris, France; Luqa, Malta; Luxor, Egypt; Sharjah, United Arab Emirates; Ahmedabad, India; Dhaka, Bangladesh; and Rayong, Thailand before finally arriving in Manila, Philippines on Thursday.
"We are excited with every delivery of the Dash-8 known for its fuel-efficiency and quiet engine," PAL Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said in a Facebook post.
She added: "Indeed, a gamechanger! It is flying across the islands while experiencing seat comfort, snacks and drinks and an ultra-comfortable ride."
PAL Express' Dash 8's are currently strategically positioned at Cebu, Clark, and Davao hubs to serve inter-island routes across the Philippine archipelago. The addition to the fleet will enable the airline to venture out into more routes especially with the launch of Davao-Manado and Zamboanga-Kota Kinabalu services this March.
The NextGen series, per Bombardier website, boasts higher fuel efficiency, an enhanced cabin environment with the introduction of LED lighting, new ceiling panels, dished window sidewalls, and larger overhead luggage bins.
PAL Express is expected to receive its last Dash 8 NextGen on order soon.
