Qatar Airways, China Airlines increase Manila frequencies and capacity
Aviation Updates Philippines - Two international airlines recently announced an increase to frequencies and seating capacity for flights to Manila, Philippines. Qatar Airways plans to increase flights while China Airlines aims to increase capacity for flights to the Philippines.
According to airlineroute.net, Qatar Airways will increase flights to Manila from the existing 8 weekly flights to 14 weekly flights beginning winter 2015. All 14 weekly flights will be operated by a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft directly from Doha, Qatar.
The Philippines and Qatar recently signed an Air Service Agreement last month in order to increase frequencies for flights between the two countries. The air agreement increases flights between Doha and Manila to 14 weekly flights from the existing 8 weekly flights. It has also granted unlimited traffic to Clark, Cebu and Davao.
Qatar Airways, aside from the Manila route, also operates 7 weekly flights to Clark International Airport. Back then, the airline was not able to mount more flights to Manila which created the Doha-Clark service. According to the airline, flights to Clark are always fully booked.
The service to Clark already gained popularity to people. According to travelers, it is more convenient to take the Clark-Doha flight instead of the Manila-Doha flight. Passengers from Subic, Zambales only took a 45-minute vehicle ride to Clark compared to a 5-hour trip with traffic to NAIA.
Meanwhile, China Airlines has also planned to increase its capacity its Taipei Taoyuan to Manila route. A Boeing 747-400 aircraft has been assigned for 1 of 2 daily flights to Manila. Starting summer 2016, the 747-400 will operate on CI 701 and CI 702, replacing 737-800/A330-300.
