Cebu Pacific takes delivery of ninth A320neo

Philippine low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air has taken delivery of its ninth Airbus A320neo (New Engine Option), the first of 10 new Airbus NEOs expected to arrive this year.

The aircraft used sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) for its journey from Airbus’ Hamburg facility in Germany to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

“This SAF-powered aircraft delivery supports our sustainability strategy in shifting to a more fuel-efficient NEO fleet by 2028. We will continue prioritizing our sustainability journey as we maintain our position as the greenest airline in Asia,” said Alex Reyes, Chief Strategy Officer at Cebu Pacific.

The airline aims to become the greenest in Asia, with a target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Cebu Pacific was the first low-cost carrier in Southeast Asia to use SAF when it took delivery of its third A330neo in May 2022.

SAF is a drop-in fuel that can be used as a replacement for fossil fuels without requiring any modifications to the aircraft or engines. It does not impact performance or maintenance, and can result in up to an 80% reduction in carbon emissions throughout its lifecycle.

In addition to modernizing its fleet, Cebu Pacific is focusing on resource optimization and fuel efficiency best practices as part of its sustainability journey. The airline is also planning to launch green routes using SAF by 2025.

The airline’s commitment to sustainability is in line with the global aviation industry’s goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Cebu Pacific has made various investments to become more fuel-efficient and keep fares affordable for passengers.

Cebu Pacific’s fleet currently includes 21 A320ceo, nine A320neo, seven A321ceo, 10 A321neo, four A330ceo, four A330neo, 14 ATR 72-600, six ATR 72-500, and two ATR freighters. The 10 new Airbus NEOs expected to arrive this year include three A320neo, three A321neo, and four A330neo.
