Department of Health asking all passengers of EY 0424 to contact them immediately

Aviation Updates Philippines - The Philippine Government is asking all 418 passengers of Etihad Airways Flight EY 0424 that arrived in NAIA on April 15, 2014 to contact or visit the Department of Health. The passengers shared a flight with a nurse infected with MERS coronavirus.

The Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), also termed EMC/2012 (HCoV-EMC/2012), is positive-sense, single-stranded RNA novel species of the genus Beta coronavirus. It was first reported on 24 September 2012 on ProMED-mail by Egyptian virologist Dr. Ali Mohamed Zaki in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

As DOH tests the passengers one by one, a trusted source said that the first 40 people were negative for the possible MERS coronavirus.

The Department of Health is now having an intensive search for the male nurse that had infected with the MERS-CoV.

Passengers may call the DOH through telephone numbers 711-1001; 711-1002; 0922-884-1564; 0920-949-8419; 0915-772-5621.

Flight EY 0424 was a flight from Abu Dhabi to Manila. The flight was operated by a Boeing 777-300ER.
