Low-cost carrier Cebu Pacific Air welcomed the arrival of its first Airbus A330-941neo aircraft on Sunday morning, positioning itself as the “greenest” airline in Asia.
The new aircraft, registered in the Philippines as RP-C3900, landed in Manila at 8:20 am on November 28, 2021. The arrival marks another milestone for Cebu Pacific, as it paves the way for a more sustainable and efficient future.
One of Airbus’ newest innovations, the A330neo boasts a 25 percent reduction in carbon dioxide emission and fuel consumption compared to previous generation aircraft. The A330neo is a 21st-century upgrade featuring multiple aerodynamic innovations and more efficient engines from the 90s-designed A330ceo.
The airline’s newest aircraft features 459 lightweight Recaro seats, ergonomically designed for comfort over long distances. This also allows more travelers to be carried in a single flight, resulting in the lowest carbon footprint per passenger, making Cebu Pacific the greenest airline in Asia.
As reported by AUP, the aircraft cabin has the same features as the A321neo, featuring Recaro seats and USB charging ports. Cebu Pacific will deploy the new aircraft to international and domestic routes. The inaugural flight is slated next month, and it will be deployed to Dubai after crew familiarization flights domestically.
“Cebu Pacific’s first A330neo brings us closer to our target of having an all-Neo fleet by 2027, and shows our commitment to making air travel accessible, while ensuring environmental and social sustainability,” said Alex Reyes, Chief Strategy Officer at Cebu Pacific.
Cebu Pacific has gradually released and returned its older aircraft over the past few years, favoring more efficient aircraft like Airbus’ neo products. Out of the original eight, the airline already returned two A330ceos.
Cebu Pacific currently has multiple neo aircraft on the order book: five more Airbus A320neos, 23 more Airbus A321neos, 10 Airbus A321XLR, and 15 more Airbus A330neos. These new aircraft would replace the A320ceos, A321ceos, and A330ceos presently on the fleet by the next few years.
