PAL launches Manila-Calbayog flights

Aviation Updates Philippines – National flag carrier Philippine Airlines introduced on Wednesday flights between Manila and Calbayog, coinciding the inauguration of the modernized and upgraded airport in Samar.

PAL Spokesperson Cielo Villaluna said the inaugural Manila-Calbayog service, flight 2P-2671, departed from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 9:12 am, marking the opening of the brand new domestic route.

As the De Havilland 8-400 aircraft of PAL Express landed, airline staff warmly welcomed the passengers. Most of the passengers aboard the inaugural flight were locally stranded individuals (LSI) and returning overseas Filipinos (ROF).

Soon after, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), among other officials, attended a short program to inaugurate the improved Calbayog Airport, which will serve as complementary to Tacloban Airport.


The maiden flight back to Manila, 2P-2672 departed at 1:00 pm and arrived at 2:04 pm.

The flag carrier flies weekly to Calbayog every Thursday aboards its 86-seat Q400 aircraft.
