PAL moves Cebu-Los Angeles resumption to May 16
Aviation Updates Philippines – On Monday, Routesonline reported the anticipated move of Philippine Airlines to slightly delay the relaunch of the Cebu-Los Angeles service in May in the midst of the falling air travel demand attributed to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Supposedly, PAL's service resumption from Cebu to Los Angeles was scheduled two weeks from now on May 2, 2020. Although the flight can still be seen via the airline's reservation system, one can no longer book economy or business class seats from May 2, 2020, until May 14, 2020.
According to Routesonline's AirlineRoute blog, the Philippine air carrier has arranged the first flight on May 16, 2020, two weeks later than the originally scheduled date. Even so, PAL has not filed any changes in the routing, timetable, and equipment.
Utilizing PAL's 370-seat Boeing 777-300ER, PR-152 departs from Cebu at 9:00 pm local time and arrives at Los Angeles at 7:30 pm local time on the same day. PR-153, on the other hand, departs from the City of Angeles at 10:30 pm local time and arrives at the Mactan-Cebu International Airport at 5:00 am local time two days after.
Flights between Cebu and Los Angeles will operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday on-board the Boeing 777-300ER as earlier mentioned. For those seeking to fly the 777, one may also book the repositioning sector from Manila to Cebu.
Back in 2015, AUP reported PAL's introduction of its Cebu-Los Angeles service as part of its extensive U.S. expansion plan then. Coinciding with the airline's 75th founding anniversary, the flag carrier launched direct flights from the two cities on March 15, 2016.
However, due to the viability of the route, Philippine Airlines was forced to "temporarily" ax the route from May 30, 2017. PAL operated flights back then with the now-retired Airbus A340-313 fleet which was capable of seating up to 254 passengers.
