Severe turbulence on United flight UA-1890 injures 16

On February 10, 2024, a United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Newark experienced severe turbulence, resulting in minor injuries to 16 people on board.

The Boeing 777-222(ER) aircraft, registered as N788UA, was able to continue its journey and landed safely in Newark.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that the turbulence had caused injuries to both passengers and crew members. Specifically, three flight attendants and thirteen passengers sustained minor injuries due to the incident.

The FAA said in a report:

AIRCRAFT EXPERIENCED SEVERE TURBULENCE INJURYING FLIGHT ATTENDANTS AND PASSENGERS, NEWARK, NJ.

United flight 1890 from Los Angeles experienced unexpected turbulence on its descent into Newark. After landing normally, the flight was met by medical personnel and three flight attendants and two passengers were transported to University Hospital. We’re grateful to our crew for their efforts to ensure the safety of our customers.

Despite the unexpected event, the aircraft was able to maintain its course and ensure the safety of all passengers on board.
