American Airlines flight makes hard landing in Hawaii, six injured

American Airlines flight 271 from Los Angeles to Maui experienced a hard landing at Kahului Airport on Saturday, January 27th, 2024, resulting in injuries to six people.

The Airbus A321-253NX, carrying 167 passengers and seven crew members, touched down hard on runway 20 at approximately 2:05 PM local time. Despite the rough touchdown, the aircraft, registered N416AN, was able to roll out and come to a stop on a parallel taxiway without further incident.

Five flight attendants and one passenger sustained injuries and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. According to reports, their injuries were minor and all six individuals were later released.

The cause of the hard landing is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The FAA issued a statement confirming the incident and stating that they will be investigating:

American Airlines released a statement saying that the aircraft "experienced an issue" upon landing in Kahului. The airline did not specify the nature of the issue, but they confirmed that five flight attendants and one passenger were transported to a hospital for evaluation and were later released.
