ISO 14001 is an international standard that provides a framework for organizations to manage their environmental impact. It is a voluntary certification, and organizations that achieve it demonstrate their commitment to environmental protection.

The Iloilo International Airport's journey towards ISO 14001 certification began in July 2020. The airport created an Environmental Management Team (EMT) to focus on this goal. The EMT conducted several campaigns to raise awareness and disseminate information about EMS among the airport's partner agencies, stakeholders, and employees.

The airport underwent two stages of audits on January 6, 2023 and February 2-3, 2023 to assess its compliance with ISO 14001 requirements. The airport was awarded the certification on May 31, 2023, and it is valid until May 31, 2026.

"Being eco-friendly in its operations has always been an aspiration of the global aviation community. This achievement is a testament to CAAP's commitment in creating a greener environment and a greener future not just for the benefit of its stakeholders but for the whole airport community as well," said CAAP Director General Captain Manuel Antonio L. Tamayo.

Director General Tamayo also announced that the Philippines will be hosting the Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) next year with the theme, "Shaping the future of air transport: inclusive, resilient, and sustainable."

The Iloilo International Airport's ISO 14001 certification is a significant achievement for the airport and the Philippines. It demonstrates the airport's commitment to environmental protection and its leadership in sustainable aviation.
