The project initially broke ground in November 2019 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the two-year delay, the construction of the new Hangar 1A was completed this year.

According to LTP President and CEO Elmar Lutter, the new hangar will help generate new jobs and opportunities for local aviation workers.

In a 2019 press release for its groundbreaking, LTP said that the new hangar is a replica of the current Hangar 1A, capable of servicing aircraft as large as the Airbus A380. Hangar 1A has a total area of 9,000 square meters.

The new hangar will mark the LTP's tenth hangar bay in Manila, which will allow the company to increase service capacity by 20 percent.

“We are looking to expanding our footprint further and if you look around here, we have reached our limits at NAIA so we are actually looking beyond Manila already,” Lutter said during the formal opening of the hangar.

“We will seek discussions with possible partners and explore possibilities within the Philippines and beyond, with the end in mind to bring affordable high-quality MRO to the region and deliver reliability and safety to our customers,” he added.

Aside from the executives from LTP, cabinet members Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Alfredo Pascual, and Albay Rep. Joey Salceda joined the opening event.

Besides Manila, LTP is also servicing other airports in the country, including Clark, Cebu, Davao, Kalibo, and Puerto Princesa. The MRO provider currently employs 2,600 Filipinos across these key cities.
