Taiwanese carrier Starlux Airlines on Tuesday announced the launch of flights between Taipei, Taiwan, and Manila, Philippines, beginning next month, July 8, 2021.
In a press release, Starlux said the new route will be opened due to the current level of cargo flight demand between the two destinations. The airline also said it hopes to provide travel service to people commuting between Manila and Taipei for work and personal matters.
On-board the Airbus A321neo aircraft, Starlux flight JX-785 will depart from Taipei at 6:50 am and will arrive in Manila at 9:00 am. The return flight, JX-786, will depart from the Philippine capital at 10:00 am and arrive back in Taiwan at 12:10 pm.
From launch until at least the end of July, the airline will operate these flights on Tuesday and Saturday. The service will be upgraded to thrice-weekly by August as it will fly every Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday.
“STARLUX has been continuously adjusting its flight schedule and aircraft delivery plan in response to the changing conditions caused by the pandemic. In this respect, the airline has opted to open routes to important business destinations rather than popular vacation spots,” the press release said.
Currently, the Taiwanese airline operates flights from Taipei to Macau, Penang, Bangkok, Osaka, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Starlux committed to launching direct Taipei-Cebu flights supposedly by April 2020. However, the plan was postponed as the pandemic continued. No new date has been announced since then.
Starlux Airlines, a relatively new competitor in the Southeast Asian market, flew its first flight from Taipei to Macau on January 23, 2020.
