DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade and CAAP Director General Capt. Jim Sydiongco led the inauguration ceremony of the 315-degree horizontal field of view (HOF) visual simulator through a virtual meeting.

The new training facility, which encompasses three air traffic controller (ATC) working positions, one supervisor position, and four pseudo pilot positions, is located at the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) in Manila.

Six airport scenario settings are installed in the simulator program, which can be used for air traffic controller proficiency in the airport domain of Manila, Clark, Mactan, Plaridel, Davao, as well as a generic single-runway airport.

According to CAAP, the tower simulator serves as an aid to artificially recreate the control tower environment for air traffic controller training, design, and other purposes.

The facility, which has completed construction since March 2021, will significantly enhance instructional methods as trainees would be exposed to life-like scenarios with a rendered view from the tower.

With this state-of-the-art facility, full-fledged ATC and ATC trainees will now be able to experience an environment equipped with an aerodrome control tower, providing them a platform to further improve their skills and capabilities without any risk to property or lives, and at lower costs.
