First reported on Airways Magazine, the order was originally revealed with a Letter of Intent (LOI) for the four jets in 2019. An order for four of the jets was announced in late 2019 to an unnamed customer. Airbus has now disclosed the order being placed in a recent order and delivery report.

No confirmed schedule of delivery made public. During the signing of its LOI in 2019, Garuda indicated the originally planned delivery schedule to be between the 3rd quarter of 2021 and the second quarter of 2022. The jets will be equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent 7000-72 engines.

The order for the four A330-800neos will join the 27 A330s already part of the Jakarta-based airline's fleet. Along with three newer A330-900neos, the airline also has 7 -200s and 17 -300s. Garuda previously ordered 12 -900neos from Airbus.

While Airbus A330-900 has been a more popular version of the A330neo offerings, the A330-800 has so far secured just 15 orders with 4 delivered (2 each to Kuwait Airways and Uganda Airlines). Air Greenland is another customer of the jet with an order for 1 A330-800.

According to Airbus, the A330-800neo has a range of around 8150nm (~15,094km) with a maximum capacity of up to 406 passengers in a single-class configuration. Airbus states a typical tri-class configuration for the jet will seat 220 to 260 passengers.
