WATCH: Antonov An-124 overruns runway at Novosibirsk

Aviation Updates Philippines – After allegedly encountering an uncontained engine failure, a Volga-Dnepr Antonov An-124-100 Ruslan overran the runway at Novosibirsk International Airport, Russia, on Friday afternoon.

According to a detailed preliminary report from The Aviation Herald, the aircraft with tail number RA-82042 departed Runway 25 at 12:08 pm local time for a positioning flight from Novosibirsk, Russia, to Vienna, Austria. 

Flight VI-4066 lost transponder signal and radio communications at 1,800 feet MSL briefly after taking off. The aircraft returned immediately and landed but overran to the end of the same runway by 650 feet, according to AvHerald citing local sources.

An Antonov An-124-100 Ruslan of Volga-Dnepr Airlines overshot the runway in Russia after it returned to just a few minutes after departure.

Fortunately, while there were no reported injuries among its 14 passengers, the Antonov received substantial damage to its wings, landing gear, and engine #2. The left-wing slats and port side fuselage.

Moreover, engine #2 lost its engine inlet based on photos and videos of the aircraft. Ground witnesses also reported an alleged engine piece fell from the plane, damaging a roof of a house.

West Siberian authorities, specifically the Transport Prosecution Office, have already spearheaded the investigation on this incident.
