PAL cancels all domestic flights starting today
Aviation Updates Philippines – On Tuesday, Philippine Airlines announced the cancellation of all domestic flights effective today, March 17, 2020, until April 12, 2020, according to PAL Advisory #38 on the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).
PAL will continue to operate international flights until March 19, 2020. However, the airline's outbound international flights from March 17, 2020, until March 20, 2020, will carry foreign nationals and Filipino OFWs while the inbound international flights on the same dates will only fly Filipino nationals, their foreign spouses and children and holders of permanent resident visas.
The national flag carrier will operate scheduled international flights until 11:59 pm local time of March 19, 2020, only.
PAL requests the affected guests to defer any rebooking requests until after April 12, 2020, as stricter quarantine measures are enforced in the metropolitan. PAL Ticketing Offices, however, continue to operate from 2:00 am until 10:00 pm daily.
"[W]e expect a high volume of queries and transactions at the Ticket Office as well as the Hotline, and we ask you to bear with us as we deal with the challenge of handling an unprecedented number of canceled flights over this quarantine period," it said.
The decision comes after the Philippines imposed an enhanced community quarantine covering the entire island of Luzon which began earlier midnight.
"We seek your kind understanding and patience as we cope with this major challenge and make a collective sacrifice in the name of the national interest and public health," PAL said.
As part of the government's continuous effort to contain the spread of the virus, the COVID-19 Inter-Agency Task Force (COVID-19 IATF) recommends the enforcement of the sterner home quarantine procedure, suspension of all mass transportation systems, and increased police and military visibility in government-mandated checkpoints.
