On Wednesday, the head of state signed the appointment of Paredes as the 37th chief of the country's air force after the mandatory retirement of Lieutenant General Rozzano Briguez who has already reached 56 years of age.

A welcoming and turnover ceremony was held on Thursday to welcome the new chief as the outgoing Briguez retires.

Aside from his service as the head of the Air Logistics Command, he also served as the commander of the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing and the Chief of Air Staff. Paredes is a member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Maringal” Class of 1988

“MGen Paredes’ wide experience and sterling record will serve the PAF well as he leads it to new heights. We wish him good luck,” Department of National Defense (DND) spokesperson Director Arsenio Andolong said in a statement.

According to a report from the Philippine News Agency (PNA), Paredes' appointment for PAF's highest office was endorsed by the Secretary of Defense Delfin Lorenzana and as well as the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief Lt. Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. and the AFP Board of Generals.
