No damages at quake-hit airports—CAAP says
Aviation Updates Philippines – The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), in a statement, reassured that operations remain normal at the Francisco Bangoy (Davao) International Airport, General Santos City International Airport, Laguindingan Airport, and Butuan Bancasi Airport after the 6.6-magnitude earthquake struck Tulunan, North Cotabato past 9:00 am on Tuesday.
The aviation regulator said that the CAAP Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS), Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF), Air Navigation Service (ANS) initiated post-earthquake assessment on all its assets especially the passenger terminal buildings, control towers, navigational instruments, runways, and other operational facilities.
Inspections revealed no potential risks or hazards as a result of the strong tremors. However, CAAP reported that aftershocks are still being experienced in the surrounding airports as of the moment.
Operations on all Mindanao airports remain normal since morning.
According to CAAP's statement, "no effect of the earthquake was felt in other satellite airports such as the airports in Ozamiz, Camiguin, and Iligan."
In an information bulletin released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the earthquake was tectonic in origin and was centered in Tulunan, Cotabato. It claimed lives of at least five individuals leaving many injured.
