Boeing bags first 737 MAX deal after sales drought

Aviation Updates Philippines – American planemaker Boeing brings home a $24 billion deal from the International Airlines Group (IAG) for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft for the first time after the two fatal accidents involving the said aircraft in October 2018 and March 2019.

The crash of LionAir flight JT-610 and Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-302 may have affected the overall confidence of customers around the globe, but the IAG backed the MAX jets making it a big win for Boeing.

As of the moment, all the MAX aircraft around the world are grounded until the end of this year following continuous tests and software fixes by the aircraft manufacturer.

Boeing opened the Paris Air Show 2019 with an assurance of the 737 MAX's safety as it tries to gain back confidence of its airline customers.

“We have every confidence in Boeing and expect that the aircraft will make a successful return to service in the coming months,” IAG Chief Executive Willie Walsh told Reuters and the media as it announced the aircraft order.

After several months of sales drought, Boeing signed a deal with Korean Air and Air Lease Corporation for the acquisition of its hot-selling Boeing 787 Dreamliners, worth $6.3 billion at current list prices.
