Philippine Airlines Chosen as Miss Universe Official Carrier
Aviation Updates Philippines - National flag carrier Philippine Airlines has been designated as the official carrier for the Miss Universe 2017 pageant by the Miss Universe Organization. The 65th Miss Universe pageant will be held in the Philippines this January.
The airline will fly the 85 candidates to top Philippine destinations such as Cebu, Davao, Boracay, Vigan, Baguio, Batanes, among others. The candidates will experience the Filipino people's hospitality, the culture and tradition, the white sand beaches, and other famous tourist spots.
Philippine Airlines has flown the country's home grown beauty queens in the past. The airline flew Gloria Diaz back to Manila in 1969, and flew Margie Moran in 1973. PAL was also the official carrier of the 1994 Miss Universe and a sponsor of the 1974 edition, both held in the Philippines.
The Philippines' candidate this year is Maxine Mendina, the daughter of Philippine Airlines flight purser Maximo Guillermo Medina. Maxine was also picked by the airline as Miss Philippine Airlines for having shown a potential to portray the "Heart of the Filipino" -- the airline's current slogan.
Aside from the candidates, all members of the organizing committee and working staff will also be flown by PAL to Manila.
The coronation, which marks the culmination of the events, will be held at Mall of Asia Arena on January 30, 2016 at 8:00 in the morning. During the coronation, Miss Universe 2016 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach will transfer her crown to her successor. Wurtzbach is currently the airline's brand ambassador.
