Philippines signs Air Services Agreement with four countries
Aviation Updates Philippines - The Philippines and Myanmar signed a new air services agreement on Tuesday. The signing of the new air services agreement would allow airlines to mount a total of 3,780 seats a week or three flights daily.
The parties also agreed on unlimited traffic rights between all points in the Philippines, except Manila, and all points in Myanmar, which has three international airports. “Myanmar is a rapidly growing economy of about 60 million people, with a potential for the development of direct connectivity with the Philippines,” Civil Aeronautics Board executive director Carmelo Arcilla said.
Negotiations for the expanded air services agreement with Macau, South Africa, and Canada will be held in the next 2 months. Regulators will talk about the possible expansion of air traffic rights between Philippines and Macau in the first week of June.
For Canada, the talk was scheduled to be held on June 27 and June 28. The last expansion of the air services agreement was held back in 2008. Philippines Airlines is the only carrier who operate flights between the Philippines and Canada since Air Canada doesn't operate that route.
In June last year, the Philippines and Macau expanded their air services agreement from 3,500 seats per week to the current 4,500 seats per week. Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air, AirAsia Zest, and Tigerair Philippines operates flights between the Philippines and Macau.
Authorities will also meet on July 9 and July 10 to seek the inking of a new air services agreement in Africa.
