AirAsia launches direct Kalibo-Kuala Lumpur flights

Malaysian tourists are soon to experience the globally acclaimed white sands of Boracay, thanks to AirAsia’s introduction of direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kalibo, Aklan, starting this April.

Philippine Ambassador to Malaysia, Eduardo Malaya, expressed his enthusiasm in a recent statement. “As we progress towards the realization of the ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, it’s an opportune moment for Malaysians and Filipinos, as close neighbors, to interact, engage, and deepen their understanding of each other’s cultures and countries,” he said.

Once in Kalibo, the paradise of Boracay Island is merely a boat ride away.

Currently, only Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines Express offer regular flights to Caticlan. However, AirAsia’s new route promises to bring tourists even closer to Boracay, bypassing the need to transit through Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

According to the embassy, the number of tourists from Malaysia visiting the Philippines reached 109,437 in 2013.

Ambassador Malaya highlighted the lasting impression the Philippines leaves on its visitors.

“Beyond the places they explore, what remains etched in the minds of travelers post their Philippine sojourn is the warmth and hospitality of Filipinos,” he said.

He further added, “I hope the news excites Malaysians enough to start planning their trip. Pack your bags, sunglasses, and sarongs, stock up on sunblock, and get ready to experience Boracay via AirAsia.”
